Primavera P6 Schedule Health: What a Credible EPC Schedule Should Show
A Primavera P6 schedule is not credible simply because it calculates a finish date. In EPC and construction, schedule health depends on whether the network logic, calendars, constraints, status, float and progress evidence support a believable forecast.
Start with logic, not the finish date
A healthy schedule should explain how work flows from one activity to the next. Open ends, unnecessary lags, excessive leads and logic added only to force dates can weaken the forecast. Review predecessor and successor coverage, relationship types and whether the logic represents how the work will actually be executed.
Review constraints and float behavior
Hard constraints can hide network behavior by forcing activities to dates that the logic would not otherwise produce. Total float should also be reviewed as a trend rather than a single number. Negative float, near-critical paths and rapid float erosion can signal emerging pressure even before the contractual completion date moves.
Check the data date and progress evidence
Statusing should be consistent with the data date. Actual starts, actual finishes, remaining durations and physical progress need to tell the same story as field evidence. A schedule that is technically updated but disconnected from quantities, work-front readiness, procurement or manpower may still produce a weak forecast.
